The Fire Prevention Bureau operates on the ‘Three Es’ of fire prevention:
Key functions include:
- Annual inspections of all commercial properties in the district
- Residential smoke and carbon monoxide inspections under M.G.L. 148 (26F and 26F½)
- Permit issuance in compliance with NFPA 1 and 527 CMR
- Fire and arson investigations, including evidence collection and scene photography
- School-based education programs such as the Jr. Firefighter Program and library story times
- A robust Community Risk Reduction Program focusing on the safety of our senior residents.
The Bureau works closely with the Barnstable Building Department to ensure compliance with state and national fire codes.
